On High is a college hoops blog focused on the BIG East.
My goal here is to provide an authentic, light-hearted community space for amateurs, fans, up-and-coming writers to post their Big East blogs, articles, analyses, etc. If you have a post or even just an idea, click the submit button!
For me, community is important to every aspect of life. I am a lifelong Johnnies fan (see picture below), but it wasn’t until I found a community of like-minded folks on #SJUBB that I became a true diehard. Now, over a decade into what I would call my “diehard era,” I’m a season ticketholder, a co-host on the Eye on the Storm Podcast with my friend David Berov, and all-around college basketball sicko.
Over that decade, I’ve forged relationships with other fan bases, to the point I sometimes joke I am the SJUBB ambassador to other fan bases. The beauty of the BIG East is in its fans. The fine fans of BIG East Twitter have fun, while still talking smack and (mostly) keeping it friendly.
That light-heartedness on Twitter is an aspect of the BIG East that I want to capture here. Sure, I’ll have some “serious” posts concerning metrics and other analyses, but there’ll usually be a joke or 2 or 5 mixed in. Can’t guarantee they’ll be funny, but they’ll be there.
Most importantly, I am a huge evangelist for the BIG East. This is the greatest conference in the nation. The best programs, the most exciting games, the best conference tournament, and of course, the best fans. It’s a basketball-centric conference that defies the laws of college athletics. By all accounts the BIG East should not exist as a high major conference in the year of our lord 2024, but not only do we exist, not only are we existing as a high major, we are thriving. We have won 4 of the last 9 national championships, the most of any conference since the Big East’s realignment. Since our founding in 1979 only the ACC has won more national championships (ACC-13, BIG East-10, SEC-6, B1G-5 [none in 25 years], Big8/12/???-4, Pac12-2 [RIP in peace]). In the post-realignment era we’ve averaged 5 NCAAT berths per season (50% of the conference before UConn joined back up). Any way you slice it, the BIG East is elite, and it is clearly the best conference around. This blog will never apologize for being pro-BIG East.
More About the Founder
As noted above, I am a St. John’s diehard and season ticketholder. I’d argue I have one of the best seats in all of MSG. Check out the picture below! I get to sit right behind the greatest announcers bar none, including GOATs like John Fanta, Gus Johnson, and Bill Raftery. I’m a huge fan of great defensive plays. Other than a game-winning buzzer beater there is nothing more electric than a huge block and I will go to my grave forever a defender of drawing a charge, an unfairly vilified art form these days. I have rarely met an official that I like.
Outside college basketball, I love all sports (USMNT, Giants, Chelsea, Knicks, Yankees, Devils, in that order), golfing, poker, craps, sports betting, emo music and attending concerts, craft beer, horse racing, collecting Michelin stars (a Baker’s dozen these days), the great city of Newark, New Jersey, my beloved Blue Hens FCS football (soon to be FBS!), recreational marijuana use, all animals, including my 2 dogs (Cooper & Cammy) and my cat (Angelo), and traveling. I work as a plaintiff’s personal injury attorney in New Jersey.
